Diana has been with the Muscatine Community Y since 1998.  Her background includes counseling in the areas of domestic violence, sexual assault, substance abuse, homelessness, and working with persons with disabilities as well as working with grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. Diana is a proud mother and grandmother and she applies these personal experiences to the many services offered through Family Program Services.

Family Program Services is designed to give parents and grandparents information, support and the opportunity to explore issues  particular to their needs.  The program is funded by United Way, the County Board of Supervisors, the Department of Education, Muscatine County CARES and the Brookdale Foundation. As a result of this funding, Family Program Services offers child care at no cost for those attending the Program.   The Program offers various groups which address the special needs of both caregiver and child.   The Program is free and open to the public.   Participants do not need to be Y members to participate in Family Program Services.  Participants come from all walks of life including:  new and experienced parents, young and old parents, low-income and high income, limited education and college education, etc. There is a group within this Program to serve everyone including Grandparents who are Raising their Grandchildren.  In addition to the weekly groups, monthly workshops are held on a variety of topics.   Look below for information regarding each individual group, or contact the Y for more information.

FAMILY NIGHTS
Family Nights take place once a month. This is a great way for families with young children to come to the Y and spend fun time together! Don't worry about cooking dinner before you come - food is always sold for a nominal fee! Family Night activities are geard toward families with pre-school and elementary age children.

PRESCHOOL PLAY AREA

Bring your toddlers and supervise them while they play and tumble in our Preschool Play Area at the Y. Parents/caregivers must accompany children in this area. This area is open daily whenever the building is open.

PARENTING SKILLS STUDY GROUP

WORKSHOPS

Please join Family Program Services for our free monthly workshops. These are open to the public and child care is provided free of charge for workshop participants. Upcoming workshops include gardening, child care, self-defense, and family management. All workshops are held from 6:30-8:00pm at the Y. FRIENDS AND FITNESS

GRANPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN

This is a twice monthly support group for people who are raising or assisting in raising their grandchildren and for other relatives who provide support. Raising grandchildren presents unique "parenting" issues and we can provide support and direct grandparents to community resources. Topics discussed are legal issues, health care issues, family conflict, etc. Call the Y at 263-9996 for more information.

TAPS

Taps (Teen Age Parent Services) is a child care program located at Muscatine High School. Its purpose is to support enrolled teens who are working to complete their high school education. The day care is open to children between the ages of two weeks and less than two years during the academic school year. Contact Diana at 263-9996 for more information.

YPLAY

YPlay is a child care program for parents using the Y and is FREE for members! Parents/Guardians must remain at the facility. Infants through 8 years are welcome.

YPlay tries to maintain a child/adult ratio of 5 to 1. If maximum occupancy is reached during program hours, participants may be asked to wait until openings occur.

Nonmember: $3.50 per hour per child

FEE FOR LATE PICK-UP: A $2.00 per minute/per child fee will be charged for late pick up of children.
